Hello Students and Parents,
We know more information about the AP Exam. It will be online, taken on at 2pm on Friday, May 15th. You will have 45 minutes to complete a DBQ that will be on a subject from Periods 1-7 using a total of 5 Docs.
Here are a few links with more information: Exam Schedule and Details on Taking the Exams and FAQs.
I am sure you know that WCPSS is going virtual for the time being. For our APUSH class, I will conduct live lessons through Google Meet according to the given schedule:
2A on Mondays from 9:30 - 10:30 and 4A on Tuesdays from 9:30 - 10:30 (starting April 13th and 14th).
The needed links & documents will be found on my Google Classroom page (this is linked to your WCPSS email). We will be going back and studying material from Period 2 through Period 7, paying special attention to DBQ tactics and skills. I am expecting participation on your part and my plans will be designed for success on the exam. You have the gift of extra time and this will be well worth the effort to get college credit and not waste your hard work this year!
Every family has different circumstances; if you have problems with wifi or an available device please let me know! My email is [email protected].
I'll be in touch soon,
Kate Gaskins

Dear APUSH students and parents,
As you know, we are living through an UNPRECEDENTED time in the modern history of our country and the world. I have been thinking of all of you and hope that you are staying safe, adhering to the advice of health experts, and doing your part in staying home to "flatten the Curve." I have been at home with my immediate family, trying to keep my extroverted 5 year old daughter engaged while "teleworking" and assuring my parents and in-laws stay safe & have supplies. I do miss you and miss our school routine!
As for our class, we do not know when or if school will resume. WCPSS has advised teachers and students that any work done is supplemental, and students are not to be given required work. However, there is a great opportunity to review what you have learned so far and do well on the AP Exam (Please see below for details). I will keep you updated on any changes on student expectations via this website. I don't have any answers about how grades will be affected by our missing school, but I plan to update grades over the next two weeks to reflect what you have submitted thus far. This will finish out 3rd quarter and reflect some of 4th quarter. Thank you for your patience in this matter. I am sure we will get more clarification from WCPSS soon.
As for AP testing, the College Board has announced that the exams will still be given. They will be shorter, only 45 minutes! There will be both online and hand-written options and the exams will be done from home. The college board will put out a testing schedule and more details by April 3rd. Some students may want to take the exam sooner rather than later, while the content is still fresh. Other students may want more time to practice, so there will be two different testing dates. The testing for APUSH will only go through 1945 (from Pre-COLOMBIAN times through the end of WWII), so if you are caught up on your reading (through Chapter 36), you will not need to learn new content. please know that review is crucial!! I encourage you to review to the best of your ability and over the course of at least 10 days, as you could get college credit for "passing" the exam with a "3" or higher. Interact with your notes, organize your materials, watch review videos and go to the exam review page of this website! Think of how hard you have worked throughout the year, and now You have plenty of time to study and to make that hard work add up to college credit!
Prepare for the exam and knock it out of the park!
there will also be daily Online Review AP Classes. Beginning on Wednesday, March 25, students and schools will have access to free, live AP review lessons, delivered by AP teachers from across the country. The lessons will focus on reviewing the skills and concepts from the first 75% of the course (period 1-7). For all college board information and resources Log in here
I will keep you updated by posting above this letter and will check my email ([email protected]) for questions you have. Stay safe, Be helpful to your family, reflect on the history you are living through, and make the most of this opportunity. I hope to see you soon!
All the best,
Kate Gaskins
